As timber suppliers, we here at Mike England Timber are always reading about a number of exciting building products. One such article that caught our attention this week, concerns a project by international architects Tate Harmer. Although not as grand in scale as lot of the latest projects we are used to seeing in the press, the London based architects have managed to produce one of the most stunning timber extensions to date.
As a starting point to the project, the team began renovating the interior of the Edwardian era family home located in Shepherds Bush. Although the property is located in a conservation area, (something which can usually throw a spanner in the works to some extension projects), Tate Harmer, were allowed to proceed with their timber based extension plans, and we’re certainly glad that this was the case.
Described as a ‘contemporary’ extension, the team created a visually stunning structure that helps link the family home, to the garden. Using the planning restrictions to their advantage, the team managed to design an L shaped structure, which has more than adequate space. Sourcing specially treated wood from their timber suppliers, a number frames were constructed to hold the new structure in place. The outer walls were constructed leaving space for windows and skylights, allowing as much light as possible all year through.
